Chikkamagaluru DC inspects Deviramma hill to check the facilities
Ahead of this year’s famous jathra on Nov 7 and 8, the district administration is making all arrangements. At 6.30am, he held a meeting with all departments and temple committees, then climbed the hill to check the conditions. On Nov 7, puja will be performed from 6am to 10am. Darshan will be open for two days – Nov 7 and 8.

“We have made all arrangements for safety and smooth darshan,” said deputy commissioner Bhanwar Singh Meena after trekking the hill himself along with a team of officers. Chikkamagaluru: Deviramma hill remains silent, shrouded in mist and dense forest for the entire year except for a week when it comes alive with faith during the Deviramma festival, when devotees throng in big numbers to have darshan of the deity. Thousands of devotees climb the near-vertical hill to have darshan of Deviramma – a goddess who devotees believe protects Malnad. For the DC, it was not a routine inspection. Later, fire, health and police departments conducted a mock drill on the climbing route – a first for this festival. Deviramma hill is steep, slippery and risky, especially when thousands climb together chanting the goddess’s name. To prevent any mishap, new ropes have been fixed at dangerous and landslide-prone stretches. The ritual will begin early. Only after that will devotees be allowed to climb. Based on past experience, the administration has banned night trekking this time as risk is high after dark. Devotees will be allowed to enter the hill shrine by 4pm.
