Police arrested a 57-year-old construction worker from Kerala on Wednesday for sexually abusing a mentally challenged woman near Thalamuthunagar in Thoothukudi district.
Thoothukudi : Police arrested a 57-year-old construction worker from Kerala on Wednesday for sexually abusing a mentally challenged woman near Thalamuthunagar in Thoothukudi district. A senior police official told TOI that the 35-year-old woman had allegedly been subjected to repeated penetrative sexual assault. When questioned by her mother, the woman revealed that she was sexually assaulted by him on several occasions in the past, the official added.
Police said the accused, identified as Sunil , a native of Kottayam in Kerala, was staying at Sottaiyan Thoppu near Thalamuthunagar and working at a construction site in the area. Local residents rescued the woman and apprehended Sunil. Public allegedly thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Based on a complaint, personnel from the Thoothukudi all-women police station rushed to the spot, conducted an inquiry and recorded statements from those concerned. Following investigations, police registered a case against Sunil and remanded him in judicial custody.
On the day of the incident on Wednesday, the woman’s mother saw the accused and her daughter coming out of the restroom at his house.
