Thoothukudi : Police have arrested a 57-year-old construction worker from Kerala for sexually harassing a mentally challenged woman near Thalamuthunagar in Thoothukudi district on Wednesday.

Police said the accused, identified as Sunil , a native of Kottayam in Kerala, was staying at Sottaiyan Thoppu near Thalamuthunagar and working at a construction site in the area. Local residents who noticed the incident rescued the woman and apprehended Sunil. Public allegedly thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Based on a complaint, personnel from the Thoothukudi all-women police station rushed to the spot, conducted an inquiry and recorded statements from those concerned. Following investigations, police registered a case against Sunil and remanded him in judicial custody. Download the TOI App.
