Palaniswami demanded Vijay explain the rationale behind travelling abroad without the industries minister or secretary if attracting investments was the primary purpose of the visit
He questioned the decision to sign an MoU with Samvardhana Motherson in London when the company has a presence in Tamil Nadu and was functioning in 31 locations across India. Former industries minister T R B Rajaa sought a detailed break-up of the ₹15,300 crore investment commitments attracted during the London visit. He also questioned whether a ₹3,000 crore letter of intent from an unnamed company had been counted as a confirmed investment.
“When the company is here, the agreement could have been signed here. What was the need to go to London,” he asked. Meanwhile, DMK too flayed TVK govt’s claims on Vijay’s trip. In an X post, Rajaa urged TVK govt to explain the investment commitments secured during the previous DMK govt and were subsequently converted into MoUs.
Madurai/Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday questioned the outcome of chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s London visit, calling it a ‘pleasure trip’ rather than an attempt to attract overseas investment.
“When did negotiations begin with each company,” Rajaa asked, seeking timelines for projects and employment. He said former chief minister M K Stalin had briefed journalists before and after overseas investment visits, and said Vijay too was expected to explain in a similar manner after his return.
