Kochi: Kochi City police on Tuesday registered an FIR against over 17 social media handles for allegedly revealing the identity of the juvenile accused of causing a fatal accident in Cheranelloor. The FIR was registered under Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, which states that no report in any newspaper, magazine, news-sheet or audio-visual media or other forms of communication regarding any inquiry or investigation or judicial procedure shall disclose the name, address or school or any other particular which may lead to the identification of a child in conflict with law, according to the police. The father of the minor, an additional district judge, was made an accused in the fatal accident involving his 17-year-old son. Earlier, the special court for considering cases relating to atrocities against women and children had directed police to take down such posts and initiate action against those responsible.
