Binoy Viswam
Viswam, who is also AITUC national working president, said the Left had repeatedly pledged to protect toddy workers whenever the demand arose, and that the former chief minister too had promised corrective action, but nothing was done. He said protests over the issue persisted then and continue now, adding that merely promising correction is not enough — it must be demonstrated through action. He also acknowledged that the LDF govt had done many things right during its tenure.
Kottayam : The LDF govt failed to protect Keralam’s toddy industry despite repeated promises, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam said while inaugurating the 21st state conference of Kerala State Toddy Workers Federation (AITUC) at CK Viswanathan Memorial Hall in Indamthuruthi Mana, Vaikom, on Friday.
Referring to LDF’s poll losses in Payyannur, Taliparamba, Ambalappuzha, Vaikom and Kodungallur, Viswam said LDF’s own supporters had not voted for it, calling the defeat a serious political lapse that offers a lesson. He said the party must introspect on whether it gave sufficient attention to those who stood by it.
