Kolkata: During a private prayer meeting at their residence, a Christian family in Howrah’s Amta were allegedly threatened with eviction and told to “renounce” Christianity on Wednesday. The incident comes in the wake of similar reports of such attacks on the Christian community during house prayers recently.

“They told us to renounce Christianity and convert to Hinduism, warning that we would otherwise be forcefully evicted from our property,” Putul said. Herrod Mullick, founding state secretary of Bangiya Christiya Pariseba (BCP), said, “A worrying pattern of violence has emerged where vigilantes routinely take the law into their own hands, executing targeted attacks on an almost daily basis. The following night, an armed group allegedly surrounded the house again and abused the couple in front of their sons. I have lodged a police complaint,” Putul added.
