51g MD drugs sourced from Mumbai seized; habitual offender arrested

Police urged citizens to share information about drug peddling or consumption

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : The anti-narcotics cell of the city police seized 51.29g of MD (mephedrone), worth Rs 2.53 lakh from Naralibag area on Thursday night, and arrested a 40-year-old, who is a habitual offender with multiple cheating cases registered against him. Citizens can send information about drug sales, consumption, groups involved in substance abuse or premises being provided for drug use through WhatsApp to 9684702002. The preliminary probe has revealed that the drugs were sourced from an accused hailing from Mumbai, who has been identified as Nadeem Ibrahim Sheikh, a resident of Ganesh Colony.

Police said Nadeem had allegedly brought the contraband to the city for sale. A second accused, identified as Zaker Zaveri of Bandra, Mumbai, was also booked after Sheikh allegedly told investigators that he had procured the MD from Zaveri. City police commissioner Pravin Pawar said the seizure was made following specific information received by the anti-narcotics cell. We will take strict action against those involved in supplying or selling drugs,” he said. Police said the identity of informants would be kept confidential.

“Our teams are keeping a close watch on the movement and sale of narcotic substances in the city. A case under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at City Chowk police station against Sheikh and Zaveri. Pawar appealed to citizens to share information about drug peddling or consumption with the police.
