Madras high court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking a direction to the authorities to appoint people having no political interference or political affiliation as the chairperson and members of the board of trustees of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by T Geethalakshmi of Madurai. The petitioner stated that the present board of trustees was constituted with people who are highly associated with political organisations. The appointment of such people is completely contrary to the provisions of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act. Hence, the petitioner moved court.
