“By 5.30 am, the embassy driver picked me up and took me to the airport. Because of the delay and eventually returned to Keralam, after reaching Delhi, she changed her flight to Kochi twice. After the flight was announced as delayed, there was no clear information even by noon.

Recounting her experience in a Facebook post, Arunima said she faced several hours of uncertainty at Kabul airport after her flight was delayed. Govt officials from Bamyan province visited her hotel and arranged a vehicle to take her safely to Kabul, she said. Despite travelling through many airports, I had never experienced anything like this before,” she said in her Facebook post. She said embassy officials had spoken to her father and later contacted her to arrange help. Expressing relief after reaching home, Arunima said the experience had made her realise the value of returning to one’s own country.

In Kabul, she was handed over to Indian Embassy, whose driver took her to a hotel where accommodation was arranged. The embassy also arranged her a flight back to India. Arunima had initially booked flights from Uzbekistan to Delhi and onward to Keralam but had to change her travel plans following the unexpected developments in the region. With no electricity and the intense heat, it was extremely difficult to wait. Arunima thanked Union minister Suresh Gopi and Indian Embassy for their assistance.
