New Delhi: Police are probing the claims that the body of 31-year-old Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, an executive at Adani Realty, was allegedly kept inside a car for two days after his murder. Investigators have found that the accused couple, who have been arrested, have a criminal past.
Sources said Yuvraj’s former colleague, Anya Vats, and her partner Sanyam Sachdeva, both residents of Gurgaon, initially told investigators that they kept his body inside the vehicle for around seven hours. Their statements later changed, leading police to try to verify the timeline and circumstances surrounding the disposal of the body. Investigators have taken Vats and Sachdeva to several locations to reconstruct the sequence of events. Police are examining where Yuvraj met the couple, how the alleged killing took place, their movements afterwards and the route they allegedly followed before disposing of the body.
The accused had asked Yuvraj to meet them near a mall in Sector 70 in Gurgaon on Sept 6, according to the preliminary investigation. Yuvraj’s decomposed body was found on Sept 10. Investigators said the accused had given different versions about the amount involved, initially citing a dispute over Rs 5 lakh, later changing the figure to Rs 25 lakh. The three had worked together at the same firm between 2019 and 2022.

Yuvraj later moved to another job, while Vats was allegedly removed from the company over financial irregularities, according to investigators. Vats has two cheating cases registered against her, police said. A domestic violence case was registered against Sachdeva by his wife, in which an Information Technology Act section was also added, officers said. Investigators said these materials, along with forensic evidence and the accused’s statements, could help establish the sequence of events and corroborate the claims made during the investigation.
Yuvraj reportedly reached the location in his own car, left it there and joined the duo in their car. An argument allegedly broke out between them, following which he was killed, police suspect. Investigators believe Vats and Sachdeva subsequently parked the car containing Yuvraj’s body, and used autos and cabs to travel to different locations. They allegedly returned to the vehicle later and dumped the body in a drain near their home. The couple also claimed that before parking the vehicle, they drove around to different locations in Gurgaon to find a place to dump the body. They then fled to Uttarakhand, from where they were detained. Police are examining a possible monetary dispute between the two parties. Police are verifying the claims and examining whether the dispute was linked to their professional dealings in the real estate sector. Vats and Sachdeva subsequently worked as freelancers and became involved in property dealings. Police are probing whether a dispute over clients and real estate transactions contributed to the alleged confrontation and the subsequent murder. One was registered at Parliament Street police station, where she is accused of allegedly cheating by posing as a govt official, while another case was registered in Greater Noida. Police are awaiting Yuvraj’s postmortem report from Gurgaon Police and also haven’t received his belongings yet. Download the TOI App.
