Food drive
A total of 152 inspection teams checked 233 establishments across the three cities and issued 163 improvement notices. In Lucknow, 52 teams inspected 78 establishments and issued 42 improvement notices. In Noida, 57 teams inspected 71 establishments and issued 42 improvement notices. Licence suspension proceedings were initiated against 13 establishments, including big restaurant chains and fast-food outlets.
Lucknow : The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has launched a major inspection drive against fast-food chains, restaurants and other food establishments in Lucknow, Noida and Gorakhpur , uncovering serious hygiene and food-safety violations, including fungus, rodent infestation, expired non-vegetarian food and poor kitchen conditions. Rodent infestation and contamination of food items were also reported, following which the outlets were shut down.
The department said establishments violating food-safety norms would be given a stipulated period to rectify deficiencies. Action was initiated against establishments found violating prescribed food-safety standards, including closure and licence suspension proceedings in serious cases. Officials found deficiencies related to food storage, sanitation, drainage, pest control and the segregation of raw and cooked food. Several kitchens were found to be in unhygienic conditions, with officials reporting fungus, rat infestation, filth and expired non-vegetarian food. Violations included improper food temperatures, storage of raw and cooked food together, dirty utensils, inadequate pest control, expired ingredients and improper food storage. Failure to comply could lead to licence suspension or cancellation and further legal action.
