On Saturday, flames and a significant plume of black smoke were observed near King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, following reported strikes by Houthi forces. Eyewitness accounts confirmed the presence of smoke rising from a fuel storage depot at the airport in the aftermath of these strikes. Images captured by Reuters depict the scene, highlighting the extent of the damage caused by the attacks.
The cause and extent of the fire near the airport were not immediately clear. Saudi Arabia’s government media office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. As per Reuters, Saudi civil defence sent the alerts by phone overnight for potential danger in Riyadh and the city of Al-Kharj east of the capital, before issuing an all-clear on Saturday morning. The UN Security Council on Friday condemned continued Houthi attacks on the kingdom, including strikes affecting civilian and energy infrastructure.
