He was 81. He had been leading a retired life at Pallimala in Thiruvalla since stepping down as the diocese head. Kottayam : Abraham Mar Julios, former head of Muvattupuzha diocese of Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, died at Pushpagiri Medical College in Thiruvalla early on Saturday.

The body was taken in a funeral procession to St John’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Thiruvalla, following public viewing at the Pushpagiri chapel. The third stage will follow Sunday morning Mass, with the fourth, fifth and sixth stages to be held at intervals through the day until 9pm. The first and second stages of the burial rites were completed on Saturday. The funeral will be held on Monday, with the seventh stage of the rites at 7am, followed by the concluding service at 9am at St John’s Metropolitan Cathedral.
