Kochi : Mattancherry Police arrested a Kollam native for allegedly posting derogatory comments targeting MLA Mohammed Shiyas and his family on social media.
The arrested individual was Muhammad Rafeek S, 51. Rafeek posted the comments on a Facebook post shared by the MLA on Sept 4 in connection with the annual festival at the Syrian Church in Thoppumpady, according to the police. A case was registered at the Mattancherry police station. With the assistance of the city cyber cell, the accused was arrested on the directions of Mattancherry assistant commissioner Ajith Kumar . The arrest was carried out by a team led by Fort Kochi circle inspector Vibhindas, comprising sub-inspector Santhosh Kumar and civil police officers Jijo Joseph and Ratheesh B. Download the TOI App.
