New Delhi: Lieutenant governor TS Sandhu Saturday joined Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) staff and young volunteers of the Vrikshit Foundation in a cleanliness drive at Durlabh Nath Vatika in Shakurpur, and urged citizens to make cleanliness a daily habit and Shramdaan a people’s movement.
“A cleaner Delhi begins with public participation,” the LG said, urging youth to take ownership of their neighbourhoods. Highlighting the role of social media in addressing civic issues, Sandhu said he personally monitors complaints posted online and tries to resolve them. He said every citizen must contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, describing cleanliness as a collective responsibility.
Sandhu stressed that while sanitation is the responsibility of MCD, citizens must also recognise their role in keeping public spaces clean. He appealed to residents to stop littering and maintain parks and neighbourhoods with the same care as their homes. He also called for community participation in maintaining the park after its cleaning. He added that complaints raised prominently on social media would lead to immediate action. The LG directed MCD officials to take strict measures against stray animals in parks and urged citizens not to leave food items in parks, saying such practices attract stray animals. During the drive, Sandhu swept the park alongside volunteers. Later, Sandhu planted a sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and appealed to citizens to plant more trees to build a cleaner, healthier and greener Delhi.
