The Nagpur Rural Police have taken significant action against a five-member gang accused of armed robbery and instilling fear in the Butibori area. Authorities have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in response to the gang’s criminal activities. This legal measure is aimed at curbing organized crime and enhancing public safety in the region.
Acting on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Harrsh A Poddar and Additional SP Anil Mhaske, Butibori police charged gang leader Dikshant Patil (26) of Video Chowk and members Amit alias Nana Bhoyar (26), Devsingh Bhatti (23), Ashish alias Muchyu Karale (26) and Kunal Purke (28). The case was registered at Bori police station after complainant Om Raju Basne alleged that on Aug 26, the accused intercepted him on Satgaon Road near Ai Lawn, threatened him with a knife, tied his hands with rope, abused him and robbed him of Rs4,500 in cash, an iPhone, Rs2,000 transferred online and his motorcycle. Police seized the knife, iron rod, rope and mobiles. Four accused have been arrested. Investigators found that the group had a record of robbery, assault and intimidation.
