Nagpur: Work on two railway underbridges (RUBs) planned: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Nagpur: Work on two railway underbridges (RUBs) planned at Pachpaoli’s level crossings is expected to begin after the monsoon . The RUBs were included as a key component of the Indora-Dighori project to provide a permanent alternative to the crossings and eliminate the need for motorists to wait for trains to pass

NHAI has completed 13.8km of road under the project, including service roads, and will now take up the underbridge work. NHAI has installed a 30-metre conventional steel girder over Level Crossing 572, while an open-web girder has been installed at Level Crossing 570.

With the reconstructed Pachpaoli Flyover now open to the public, officials said the major hurdle had been cleared. .However, execution was held up by the reconstruction of the Pachpaoli Flyover, as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) could not take up the RUB work until an alternative route was available for traffic. Preparatory structural work over the railway lines has already been completed.

The remaining work includes construction of the underpasses beneath the railway tracks, along with approach roads and other associated infrastructure. Residents and commuters from Pachpaoli and surrounding areas have for years faced long waits at the crossings, with traffic often backing up on both sides when the railway gates close. The two RUBs are expected to ease traffic in Pachpaoli, particularly during peak hours. Download the TOI App.
