New Delhi: PWD will start an integrated road and drainage upgrade for Burari, estimated at Rs 125 crore, to improve connectivity and address waterlogging in the area.
The plan covers the entire 7.1-km stretch of Burari Road, from Outer Ring Road through Baba Colony and Nathupura to Hiranki. These stretches together will account for 3.2 km. The 3.9-km stretch between Baba Colony and Nathupura will be developed as an RCC road at an estimated cost of Rs 39 crore. A central verge will also be constructed along the entire 7.1-km stretch. PWD will also develop a 9.3-km drainage network at an estimated cost of Rs 75 crore.
PWD minister Parvesh Verma inspected Burari Road and its adjoining drainage Sunday and reviewed the proposed improvement plan with senior department officials. The road will be developed in three sections based on the requirements of each stretch. The Outer Ring Road-Baba Colony and Nathupura-Hiranki sections will be developed as bituminous roads. This is aimed at improving stormwater flow and tackling waterlogging. The proposed drainage network will include drains on both sides of the road between Amrit Vihar and Bengali Colony. Drainage improvement will also be carried out on the Swaroop Nagar More-Burari Creek stretch.
The road work is expected to be tendered in the next 10 days. “The objective is not to improve isolated portions of the road, but to upgrade the entire Burari corridor in an integrated manner,” the minister said. He also said the work should be done in a manner that prevents repeated disruption for residents. The drainage work has already been tendered. He directed PWD officials to ensure coordination between the road and the drainage work. Till the road reconstruction begins, PWD will regularly sprinkle water along the affected stretches to control dust and provide relief to commuters and residents. Download the TOI App.
