NEW DELHI: A Class 6 student was allegedly sexually assaulted after she was lured into a shop, restrained and tied up in Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area, police said. The 56-year-old accused, identified as Maqsood, was arrested and sent to judicial custody in connection with the case. A PCR call was received on the night of September 16 regarding the alleged sexual assault of a minor by a shopkeeper, according to police. The accused, Maqsood, 56, was arrested after police received the information and was sent to judicial custody the same day.
Police said the girl had stepped out of her house at around 11pm to purchase stationery items when she was allegedly lured into a nearby tailoring shop. Police said her hands and legs were tied during the incident. Police said the case is being investigated and has been handled with sensitivity, with the Women Police Station continuing to act on complaints involving crimes against women and children.
Teams from Sadar Bazar police station, along with ACPs of Sadar Bazar and the Women Police Station, immediately reached the spot. The accused allegedly restrained the girl and sexually assaulted her. Based on the girl’s complaint, an FIR was registered at the Women Police Station of North District under relevant sections pertaining to rape, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and wrongful confinement.
