Basavaraj Magi, in-charge revenue officer of KR Pura division under Bengaluru East City Corporation, was suspended for allegedly issuing 98 illegal and ineligible new e-khatas in collusion with private individuals between Jan and June 2026.

He said there were no genuine bank SARFAESI orders or bank representatives involved in these transactions. Rigid and outdated requirements are being re-evaluated, he said, adding central govt had even identified fire certificate renewal as a recurring administrative burden. “Without considering specific building risks, imposing uniform requirements irrespective of actual risk profiles lead to repeated costs and additional documentation for applicants,” he said.

Lokamatha DS, in-charge revenue officer of Kengeri division under Bengaluru West City Corporation, was suspended for allegedly approving six e-khatas based on fake Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act (SARFAESI) orders, thereby benefiting builders by facilitating khata approvals for unauthorised flats. Further, the e-khatas were not issued in the names of banks, as envisaged under the module, but directly in the names of private builders.
