Kolkata: Canning West MLA Paresh Ram Das, associated with the Ritabrata Banerjee-led Democratic Trinamool Congress, fell ill after CID interrogated him for five hours on Monday over alleged violence during the 2023 panchayat election. Das entered Bhabani Bhaban at 11 am on Monday and complained of chest pain and difficulty breathing around 4 pm during questioning. He had left his Canning residence at 8 am and barely ate anything throughout the day.
Sources close to Das said that the MLA had been ailing for some time and recently returned to Kolkata after undergoing treatment in Chennai. He was rushed to SSKM, where he was given oxygen support. Hospital sources stated Das is stable now, though attending doctors intend to keep him under close observation. Das was attending his third summons, after skipping the first two. The FIR naming Das includes charges of attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.
