Kochi : Thrikkariyoor native Ramesan, 55, was arrested on Monday in connection with the theft of around 50kg of mace spice (jathipathri) stored in a house in Muvattupuzha.

The police said Ramesan had previously been involved in several theft cases and had been externed under the Kaapa. The spice was stolen from a house in Manakkapeedika in Valakom. The investigation is continuing to determine whether he was involved in similar cases and to identify possible accomplices. The team was formed on the instructions of Muvattupuzha DSP K R Manoj. It included CI M S Faisal, Muvattupuzha SHO Subin Biju, SIs P C Jayakumar and M A Zakir, and senior civil police officers Sandeep Babu, Irfan Habeeb, Sandeep Prabhakar, K P Anilkumar, M P Ratheesh and Mithun Raj. The arrest was made by an investigation team formed under the leadership of Muvattupuzha CI M S Faisal.
