Sourav Ganguly's personality rights violated? Delhi high court directs 'Doosra' makers to add

Justice Tejas Karia, however, directed the filmmakers to include an appropriate disclaimer in the film and furnish a bank guarantee of Rs 2 crore.

A day earlier, on October 22, the high court had declined to stay the film’s theatrical release on Ganguly’s plea. The movie was released last month.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Friday said the film “Doosra” prima facie violated cricketer Sourav Ganguly’s personality rights but declined to interfere with its theatrical screening. On October 23, the high court had sought a response from the makers of “Doosra” to Ganguly’s plea alleging violation of his personality rights in the film. The judge observed that the film was not limited to depicting historical events and that the defendants had prima facie commercially exploited Ganguly’s identity and persona. The court passed the interim order on a lawsuit filed by Ganguly and Luv Films LLP, which is producing a biopic on the former cricket captain. It had also asked them to arrange a screening.
