In Kolhapur, authorities have taken action against several Ganapati mandals in Uchgaon and Pulachi Shiroli for breaching noise pollution regulations during the Ganapati immersion procession. The police seized tractors, tractor-trolleys, and sound system equipment used in the celebrations, citing violations of imposed noise limits. This enforcement underscores ongoing efforts to address noise pollution in the region, particularly during festive events.
In Uchgaon, more than 16 mandals participated in the immersion procession, with two mandals reportedly cancelling their processions for unspecified reasons.
A police officer said action could also be taken against other mandals found violating the rules. Assistant police inspector Sunil Gaikwad, Shiroli MIDC police station, said, “Despite being informed of the rules, the mandals reportedly used sound systems during the procession. The police had made arrangements to regulate the procession and ensure compliance with the prescribed conditions. However, four mandals allegedly violated the noise pollution norms by operating sound systems during the procession. The action was carried out under the guidance of police inspector Kishor Shinde and assistant police inspector Atul Kadam. Meanwhile, Shiroli MIDC police took action against ten Ganapati mandals at Pulachi Shiroli for allegedly violating the conditions imposed while granting permission for their immersion processions. The tractors, trolleys and sound system equipment have been seized. Cases have been registered against the office-bearers of all ten mandals.”
In Uchgaon, the Karveer police took action against four mandals: Jai Shivrai Talim Mandal, Mangoba Talim Mandal, Dosti Group and Satya Group, for using sound systems during the immersion procession of their Ganapati idols on Saturday night, seizing their tractors and sound systems.
