On Tuesday, the company rolled out AI-powered JEE Main mock tests on Gemini, announced a Rs 85 crore grant to support 75 million students, and signed up to build the country’s first AI-enabled state university in Meerut. Google is making a big bet on Indian education. Students can now take full-length JEE Main practice tests inside Gemini just by typing “I want to take a JEE Main mock test. The questions are sourced from PhysicsWallah and Careers360, so the experience closely mirrors what candidates will face on exam day.
Through its philanthropic arm Google.org, the company is handing Wadhwani AI a Rs 85 crore grant — roughly $10 million — to modernise government platforms like SWAYAM and POSHAN Tracker. Over 3 million study outputs were generated on NotebookLM in just the past month.
Google says India already leads the world in daily Gemini usage for learning. Once a test is done, Gemini breaks down your performance — what went well, what didn’t — and can even explain the correct answers if you’re stuck. Think of it as a tutor that’s available round the clock. Google has also added a Canvas tool to AI Mode in Search. Students can upload their class notes, and the AI stitches together a study guide or quiz using both that material and relevant information from the web. Need it shorter? More focused on a specific chapter? Just ask.
