A 34-year-old man was arrested after residents caught him assaulting a six-year-old girl
NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old man was arrested after local residents allegedly caught him sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in central Delhi’s Kishanganj area on Monday evening, police said. A group of people, along with the child and her family members, reached the Shidipura police post around 6.30pm and informed officials that the accused had allegedly been caught while sexually assaulting the girl.
An FIR under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was being registered, police said. The accused, identified as Ankit, a resident of Kishanganj, was apprehended by local residents and handed over to police. The incident triggered local outrage, with residents gathering outside the police station and demanding action against the accused. Enraged locals allegedly thrashed Ankit and his mother outside the police station, following which police intervened and dispersed the crowd. The child was immediately taken for a medical examination, while police inspected the spot where the alleged incident took place and collected evidence.
