NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday after he was allegedly caught sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in central Delhi’s Kishanganj area, news agency PTI reported on Monday. Police said a group of people, accompanied by the child and her family members, reached the Shidipura police post around 6.30pm and informed officials that Ankit had allegedly been caught while sexually assaulting the girl. An FIR under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) is being registered, PTI reported.
The accused was taken into custody, while the child was immediately sent for a medical examination, police said. Ankit, a resident of Kishanganj, was apprehended by local residents and later handed over to the police. Police are examining the spot where the alleged incident took place and collecting evidence. The statements of the child and others aware of the incident will be recorded as per law, while the medical examination report will also be considered as part of the investigation.
