Kanpur: Chakeri and Jajmau police have filed a 3,013-page chargesheet in nine cases against Mahfooz Alam alias Pappu Chhuri over alleged illegal transactions worth Rs 773 crore, naming his son Faiz and other associates as accused. Police had initially received information about transactions totalling around Rs 1,600 crore through 68 bank accounts linked to Pappu Chhuri in 12 banks.
Five cases were registered at Chakeri and four at Jajmau, with the investigation subsequently uncovering alleged illegal transactions worth Rs 773 crore. Pappu Chhuri was arrested in Chakeri on June 12, while another aide was arrested at Aliganj PWD Colony in Lucknow on June 30. After Pappu Chhuri was jailed, alleged fraud victims began approaching the police. Police accused Pappu Chhuri of deceiving acquaintances, relatives and poor people in the name of schemes, opening bank accounts and fake firms in their names and obtaining GST registrations. Money was allegedly deposited into accounts of bogus firms and operated by him to carry out the transactions. Police commissioner Raghubir Lal referred the matter to the ED, which has begun an investigation. Police have also sent the ED the chargesheet and other details.
Chargesheet Filed with 60 Witnesses in Ongoing Investigation
The chargesheet in this legal case has been officially filed in court, according to DCP East Satyajeet Gupta. The document includes 60 witnesses who will be part of the proceedings. This development marks a significant step in the investigation.
