Shivamogga: Chaos unfolded outside the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office in Shivamogga on Tuesday following a collision on Nehru Road involving an SUV belonging to the Theerthahalli tahsildar’s office and a car.

Police told TOI that the tahsildar was not in the vehicle when the incident occurred. No case was registered, they said. The car reportedly collided with the tahsildar’s official vehicle on Nehru Road. Instead of stopping, the car driver allegedly sped away, prompting the tahsildar’s driver to pursue the vehicle. The chase ended about 2km away in front of the DC Office, where the car was finally intercepted. The incident soon escalated into a heated argument between the car driver and residents, during which the driver was allegedly assaulted by members of the crowd. As the commotion unfolded directly outside the DC’s office, a large number of curious onlookers gathered at the spot, temporarily disrupting traffic in the area. Following the altercation, the driver refused to step out of his vehicle. Claiming political connections and stating that he was acquainted with MPs and MLAs, he argued with the crowd and demanded that police take action against those who had allegedly assaulted him.
