Kanpur: World Rhinoceros Day was celebrated near the rhino enclosure at Kanpur Zoo under the guidance of forest conservator/director Dr Kanhaiya Patel.
Female Mayank Kumari arrived in 1973 and male Lakshit in 1974. In early 2025, Gauri , a 15-month-old female calf, was moved to Vantara Zoo in Gujarat. Kanpur Zoo has developed a thriving multi-generation rhino population from a single pair introduced in the 1970s, with animals born there transferred to leading zoos across India and Japan.
