Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : The Election Commission of India on Tuesday announced the schedule for biennial elections to five Maharashtra Legislative Council seats with the Aurangabad Division Graduates’ constituency among the seats going to polls on Oct 23.
Aurangabad Division Graduates’ constituency has emerged as a prestige battle for Mahayuti, with BJP and NCP staking claim to the seat. he had been vocal on contesting the poll again While the term of sitting member Satish Chavan is ending. The regional BJP camp, however, downplayed his claim expressing hope that the talks at higher level would end up in their party candidate getting the ticket.
Such verbal duals that were observed during the voter registration drive earlier may resurface with the announcement of polls now.
Around 2.8 lakh voters have already registered for the Aurangabad Division Graduates’ constituency poll with registration process still in progress.
A senior BJP leader said the party started preparations for Aurangabad Division Graduates’ constituency poll more than a year ago. The party leadership is expected to make necessary announcements soon by consulting with the NCP leadership,” he said, preferring anonymity. “There are no chances of giving up our claims on Aurangabad Division Graduates’ constituency. The NCP camp too is hopeful of retaining the seat by talking to senior leaders including deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar.
