Ahmedabad: A 19-year-old BSc Biotechnology student was run over by a pick-and-carry hydraulic crane outside a private university in Gota on Tuesday afternoon. Paramedics of 108 EMRI services declared her dead on the spot. The crane operator, who fled after the accident, has been arrested. The victim, Prerna Ninami, had left home around 11am to attend college. Around noon, she was walking along the road outside the university where she studies, when a crane approaching from SG Highway hit her from behind. The crane’s left front wheel ran over her, crushing her. Her mother, Kanta Ninami, lodged a police complaint.
A witness told police that the crane, bearing registration number GJ-01-RQ-2685, was being driven in a negligent manner before it struck the student.
