His comments come after Kansas City failed to score from the Denver Broncos’ one-yard line in a 28-24 loss, raising fresh questions about Andy Reid’s reluctance to use the play. Mahomes suffered a serious knee injury on a sneak in 2019, but that history has not changed his willingness to take the ball himself. Patrick Mahomes is ready to take a physical risk to help the Kansas City Chiefs solve their growing short-yardage problems. The quarterback has made it clear that he would not hesitate to run a quarterback sneak if it gave his team a better chance of winning.
Kansas City held a 24-13 fourth-quarter lead but allowed Denver to score 15 unanswered points. That approach came under renewed scrutiny after the Chiefs’ latest defeat. The offense also had a chance to take the lead late in the game, only to struggle near the goal line. The controversy grew after Kansas City reached the Broncos’ one-yard line on a third-and-goal situation. Instead of asking Mahomes to sneak, Reid called a handoff to Kenneth Walker III. Denver’s defense stopped the running back before he could get moving.
