The dispute stems from a civil lawsuit filed in Los Angeles that accuses Williamson of a pattern of abusive and controlling behavior during a relationship that allegedly began while he was at Duke and continued until 2023. In a statement released in May 2026, his representatives said, “We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and we unequivocally deny them.
Williamson’s legal team has rejected those allegations and says the relationship was casual and ended years ago. Including TMZ and Daily Mail, he says the two never dated or lived together and characterized their interactions as “friendly and casual” and consensual, according to the legal documents cited in several reports. His filings reportedly argue that California laws concerning se*ual battery, stalking and domestic violence do not apply to alleged incidents said to have occurred in North Carolina, Texas and Louisiana. He has also described the domestic violence allegation as “nonsensical,” maintaining that the pair never lived together. “This case shows a disturbing pattern of coercive control, threats, and domination, including stalking, strangulation and threats with a loaded firearm,” she said in the supplied material. His lawyers have made clear that they intend to fight the allegations in court, while the plaintiff’s legal team has said it intends to pursue the case there as well.

Williamson’s off-court controversies have also drawn commentary from former NBA players. For Williamson, the civil case remains a significant off-court issue as he prepares for another NBA season.
