NAMAKKAL: A 55-year-old textile worker died after his lungi got entangled in a yarn grinding machine at Pallipalayam in Namakkal district on Wednesday. “He was pulled into the machine, and his legs were severed,” said an officer at the Pallipalayam police station. The victim, identified as M Kandhasamy of Southpalayam, was cleaning the machine when the lungi he wore caught in its rotating parts. Kandhasamy had worked for more than three decades in the unit, owned by Angamuthu. His family members and relatives are also working in the unit.
Co-workers rescued him and took him to Pallipalayam Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body was sent to the Perundurai Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
