In Kanpur, the Kanpur Bar Association (KBA) and Lawyers’ Association had announced on Tuesday that their members would observe mass leave on Sept 23. Due to active patrolling by members of the two associations on the court premises, most advocates either remained in their chambers or did not turn up at the courts. Both associations had also put up banners at the gates of their respective premises announcing the boycott of judicial work. However, the patrolling teams allowed litigants to enter the court buildings to obtain fresh dates for their cases. Meanwhile, the two associations jointly submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the divisional commissioner. They urged the govt to consider the resolutions passed at the state convention and take appropriate decisions to uphold the dignity of the judiciary and the legal profession and maintain the prestige of the Bench and Bar.
