The first cave-in was reported on Sept 19 on the road connecting Manekbaug Crossroads with Shyamal Cross Road. In Nov 2025, AMC approved a Rs 70.3 crore project in the West Zone to lay a 1,800mm-diameter stormwater pipeline from Anjali Crossroads to Ambedkar Bridge and downstream of Vasna Barrage. The contractor quoted 45.9% below the estimated cost and agreed to execute the work for Rs 38 crore. Separately, AMC floated a Rs 69 crore tender to lay another 1,800mm stormwater pipeline through micro-tunnelling from Manekbaug Crossroads to Anjali Crossroads. The contractor quoted 46.2% below the estimate and agreed to execute the work for Rs 37.1 crore.

The following day, another cave-in occurred on the road leading from Manekbaug Crossroads towards Dharnidhar. The latest incident occurred in the afternoon when vehicles were passing through the junction. A four-wheeler suddenly became trapped after portion of the road gave way. Local residents managed to pull the vehicle out. However, before barricades could be erected, another car drove into the weakened stretch and also got stuck in the sinkhole within minutes. Locals again pulled the vehicle out and placed barricades around the affected portion. Following a complaint, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials reached the spot and installed formal barricading around the cave-in. The repeated incidents have also brought attention to two major stormwater pipeline projects being executed using micro-tunnelling technology in the area. Both proposals were approved. residents have alleged that the ongoing micro-tunnelling work was responsible for weakening the road and triggering the repeated collapses While the civic body was yet to establish a direct link between the pipeline work and the cave-ins.
