New Food Safety Inspections Set to Begin

The department has established critical inspection parameters aimed at ensuring food safety across various establishments. Inspections will cover food licenses, kitchen conditions, dining areas, storage facilities, drainage systems, and food preparation practices.

Officials will focus on preventing contamination—physical, chemical, and microbial—during these inspections. Restaurants and other eateries serving non-vegetarian food will face enhanced scrutiny to ensure proper handling of raw meat, poultry, and seafood, including measures to prevent cross-contamination.

During the inspection process, officials will first confirm that food business operators possess valid licenses or registrations appropriate to their operations, whether they run a hotel, restaurant, dhaba, canteen, or catering service.

For establishments preparing non-vegetarian dishes, it is mandatory to designate separate areas for raw meat, poultry, and seafood. This includes using distinct cutting boards, utensils, and knives to avoid cross-contamination during food preparation.

Additionally, officials will verify that surfaces used for raw meat and poultry preparation are properly cleaned. The department has mandated the use of antibacterial agents for cleaning, followed by washing with water and sanitizing to ensure food safety standards are met.
