Around 600 resident doctors, including senior residents, at AIIMS Nagpur are poised to initiate an indefinite strike starting Thursday morning. This action is in response to the administration’s failure to address their concerns following the alleged assault of a resident doctor. The doctors are demanding immediate action and support from the hospital administration to ensure their safety and well-being.
The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) has given the administration time till 8.30am on Thursday to act on its demands. With around 600 resident doctors, including senior residents, involved in patient care, an indefinite strike is likely to affect services at the premier institute. The association is now awaiting the administration’s response before the 8.30am deadline on Thursday.

If the concerns are not addressed by the deadline, the doctors have said they will begin an indefinite strike. The association is particularly unhappy with the action taken so far in the assault case and has demanded stringent action against the accused. Among its key demands is that an institutional FIR be registered instead of an FIR involving the individual doctor. The RDA has also demanded arrest of the accused and invocation of specific stringent sections of law in the case. The doctors have maintained that registration of an FIR should be followed by immediate arrest and appropriate legal action. The RDA has indicated that OPD services will be shut if the strike begins.
