Stefon Diggs’ legal battle has taken a new turn, with his accuser asking to move the case away from the area surrounding the NFL star’s new home stadium. Christopher Griffith argues that local football loyalties could complicate the jury selection process. The request adds another layer to a lawsuit involving serious, disputed allegations, a defamation countersuit, and Diggs’ growing connection to the Washington Commanders. With a judge yet to decide whether the case should move, the courtroom location has become a fresh point of contention.
Diggs joined the Commanders in August 2026 and scored a touchdown in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
He fears that potential jurors could include Washington Commanders season-ticket holders, stadium employees, and fans with a personal or financial interest in the team’s success, according to TMZ. In his motion, Griffith said he fears the “ordinary tendency to extend the benefit of the doubt to a hometown figure who success one has some stake in, particularly against an accusation that would damage a season the local team and its fans have invested in. His attorney, Mitch Schuster of Meister Seelig & Schuster, told TMZ that the defense believes a jury drawn from the current region can fairly assess the evidence. The NFL star described the request as another “sideshow” that was “designed to garner media attention.”
Griffith, who has accused Diggs of sexual battery, filed court documents seeking to relocate the ongoing lawsuit from its current jurisdiction in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Griffith argues that the receiver’s new NFL ties could create a conflict of interest for some members of the local community. Diggs is firmly opposing Griffith’s attempt to change the venue. Diggs has also questioned Griffith’s motives for seeking the change.
