Lucknow: Kisan Caravan 2.0 reached Meerut on Thursday, with farmers and agricultural experts discussing challenges related to sugarcane, Basmati, crop protection, natural farming, insurance and modern technology at a Regional Kisan Mahasabha held at a private university.
Ten farmers from western UP were honoured with the Krishiveer Award, while 15 farmers won ₹1,000 each in an agriculture quiz. A 20-member Kisan Parishad comprising farmers, agricultural officials and scientists was also formed to raise grassroots issues. Organised in collaboration with Kisan Tak and UP govt, the event featured panel discussions on improving sugarcane payments, controlling diseases such as red rot, developing disease-resistant varieties and mechanising dry-leaf management. A separate session on Basmati focused on strengthening supply chains, improving market access and connecting farmers directly with exporters, including the potential of developing Hapur as a Basmati export hub. Experts also discussed crop insurance, natural farming and technologies such as solar pumps, drones and nano-urea.
