Virudhunagar : Virudhunagar district police arrested three people, including one minor, and confiscated 18 country-made explosives during a routine vehicle check on Wednesday. The arrested were identified as Manikandan , 18, and Kavirajan, 19, of Watrap, and a 17-year-old minor. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the trio had allegedly manufactured the explosives themselves and were carrying them for hunting wild animals in the forest area, police said.
During the check, police attempted to stop a two-wheeler carrying three people. The trio allegedly tried to evade the police. However, the team intercepted the vehicle. Watrap police seized the explosives and the two-wheeler. A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Explosive Substances Act. The three were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
Police said a team was conducting a vehicle check on the Watrap-Melapalayam Road near Kannapan Mandapam on Wednesday evening.
