Virudhunagar : Railway police on Wednesday arrested two men for allegedly smuggling 13.8kg of ganja on the Purulia-Tirunelveli Superfast Express near Virudhunagar. Police found 13.8kg of ganja in their possession.
Police said a team from the railway sub-divisional crime branch, was conducting a routine check on the train while it was travelling between Madurai and Virudhunagar. During inspection, police noticed two passengers in a general compartment behaving suspiciously and checked their belongings. The contraband was seized and the two men were taken into custody. The accused, along with the seized ganja, were subsequently handed over to Virudhunagar railway police for further action.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband and whether more people were involved in the smuggling network.
