Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University signed a memorandum of understanding with Sai Institute of rural development on Wednesday to promote rural development, entrepreneurship, capacity building and technology-driven solutions in nearby regions.
Former director of IT-BHU and chairperson of SIRD, Prof S N Upadhyay, said the initiative aims to connect new technology and innovation with rural needs so that research and knowledge benefit rural communities and common people.
BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said technology and innovation become meaningful only when their benefits reach the last person in society. He described the collaboration as an important step towards taking research and technology “from lab to ground”. He said the institute would focus on taking research, innovation and ICT to rural populations through technology-based solutions.
Under the collaboration, the two institutions will work together to promote innovation, research and development, skill development, digital inclusion and entrepreneurship, along with supporting the livelihoods of farmers and women.
