Development works inaugurated by CM
Ahmedabad: Traffic relief took centre stage in Ahmedabad on Thursday as chief minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated a four-lane railway overbridge connecting Makarba with Corporate Road and a flyover at Vadaj junction, as part of a Rs 583.9 crore package of development works unveiled in the city. Patel inaugurated six projects worth Rs 279.8 crore and laid foundation stones for six more estimated at Rs 304.1 crore under ongoing ‘Seva Sankalp Samarpan Abhiyan’, marking 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s public service.
The programme also saw newly constructed houses being allotted to beneficiaries and appointment letters being handed over to more than 450 newly recruited assistant technical supervisors and around 50 junior clerks.
However, residents said the project has also brought a fresh traffic bottleneck at its Corporate Road end. Mahua Bose, a Makarba resident, said the bridge had made crossing the railway line easier but raised concerns about congestion at the junction where it terminates. The traffic congestion problem will worsen during the evening hours when there is heavy traffic,” she said. Addressing the gathering, Patel said the common man had remained at the centre of Modi’s development-oriented approach.
The new Makarba railway overbridge is expected to provide a smoother link between the two sides of the railway line and reduce congestion in the area. “The corporate road junction where the bridge ends has been experiencing a major blockade since the overbridge was inaugurated. Recalling Modi’s tenure as Gujarat chief minister, Patel cited the redevelopment of Kankaria Lake and the Sabarmati Riverfront as examples of the vision that shaped Ahmedabad’s urban development.
