Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court on Thursday issued notice to state home department and director general of police over a petition filed by a transgender person seeking job during an ongoing recruitment drive for a Class 3 position by creating a separate category for the third gender.
she approached HC seeking directions to the authorities to consider her candidature “by applying a separate and constitutionally appropriate cutoff/selection criteria for transgender candidates…. to ensure equal opportunity to the petitioner in the recruitment process and further direct the respondents to implement directions issued by Supreme Court in NALSA judgement” While awaiting a reply. In her petition filed through advocate Hannan Qureshi, the petitioner stated that she applied for the posts of an unarmed constable and police sub-inspector (PSI) during the ongoing recruitment drive by Gujarat police. she inquired with the DGP office in which category she should apply, as she belongs to a third gender and recruitment was being done for only male and female categories While applying for the post. She was advised to apply in the category of the gender mentioned in her Aadhar card.
