The mastermind of the fake international call centre busted in Aliganj fled the premises nearly an hour before the police raid, leaving behind 16 employees including 4 women who cops say were working under strict surveillance and daily financial targets of up to ₹1.5 lakh
The accused were identified as Devendra Singh Tomar (41), a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Himanshu Dharampal Chauhan (29), from Vadodara, Gujarat. Their arrests come after a Sept 18 raid in which Aliganj police detained 16 people allegedly working on the premises.
Police said they were arrested during the ongoing investigation into a suspected fake call centre operating from Ridhya Plaza near Novelty Cinema. Tomar and Chauhan were part of the core management group and handled the “closure team,” along with recruitment, training of new hires and overall team supervision, according to investigators. Police said interrogation, technical surveillance and analysis of suspicious mobile numbers led them to the two men, who had remained wanted. Police said digital evidence indicated the network had previously operated from South Goa , where a cybercrime case was registered, and from Kolkata’s New Town area, with a case filed at Eco Park police station.
An FIR was registered at Aliganj police station under multiple provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 66C and 66D of Information Technology Act. The gang also allegedly ran operations in Varanasi and another Lucknow site in Vibhuti Khand/Gomti Nagar before shutting down and fleeing ahead of a planned raid. Lucknow: Police on Thursday arrested two key managers allegedly running an international cyber fraud call centre in Aliganj area, saying the pair had earlier operated similar set-ups in Goa and Kolkata.
