Teachers in Ghatkopar have reported that ongoing election-related responsibilities have significantly disrupted regular classroom activities since June. This situation has raised concerns about the impact on students’ educational progress, particularly as the academic year continues to advance.
Parents are now calling on school administrators to implement alternative arrangements to mitigate the academic consequences of these disruptions. Rani Tiwari, a parent with a child enrolled in a local school, expressed her frustrations, stating that the school is already facing staffing shortages. She emphasized that the repeated deployment of teachers for election duties is causing students to miss crucial learning opportunities.
“Students are losing vital learning time because of these shortages. The administration must ensure their education does not suffer due to non-academic duties,” Tiwari said, highlighting the urgent need for a solution as the academic year progresses.
Disruptions in Education Raise Concerns Over Academic Progress
Municipal school teacher Vilas Jadhav highlighted ongoing challenges in completing the syllabus due to frequent disruptions. He stated, “We are expected to complete the syllabus, conduct assessments, and prepare students for examinations, but every few weeks our teaching schedule is disrupted. When classroom hours are reduced further, it becomes incredibly difficult to give individual attention to students who need additional help.”
Former vice-president of the Headmasters’ Association, Mahendra Ganpule, echoed these concerns, pointing out that schools have faced multiple interruptions since June due to SIR-related work, health app updates, and training programs. He questioned the feasibility of conducting examinations with an incomplete syllabus, urging the government and education department to address the academic losses students are experiencing.
