KANPUR: Police arrested a man for allegedly killing his 84-year-old father with a brick and an axe following a dispute over money in Para Ojhi village in Hamirpur’s Sadar Kotwali area on Wednesday night.
Police said Ramzan allegedly attacked Nawab Ali, causing serious injuries to his head and face, after their dispute escalated. Shamsuddin informed police after the body was discovered. Villagers gathered at the house, where a blood-stained guma was found near the scene. Injuries were visible on Nawab Ali’s head and near his eye. CO Sadar Yashpal Singh and Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Verma inspected the scene and questioned family members and villagers. Police took the body into custody for post-mortem examination after completing panchanama proceedings. An FIR was being registered on the basis of the family’s complaint.
Nawab Ali was found dead on a cot inside the house on Thursday morning, while Ramzan had gone to sleep after the attack.
Family Tensions Rise Over Medical Expenses
Nawab Ali’s family is facing increasing financial strain due to medical expenses for his younger son, Ramzan, who has been ill. Ramzan has been seeking a loan to cover his treatment costs and has approached both his father and elder brother Shamsuddin, the village head (gram pradhan), for assistance. Family members report that discussions about the loan began three to four days ago, leading to ongoing tensions within the household over financial matters.
Singh said the preliminary investigation indicated a dispute over a money transaction. He said further action would be based on the post-mortem report and facts emerging from the investigation.
